Pelican’s Eye, Number 2,                                                        February 26, 2005

The Dauphin Island Property Owner’s Association met today. Highlights of the meeting follow.

Caroline Hall, after many years of excellent service to the DIPOA, resigned due to health problems.  She will be sorely missed.  The Board voted to award her a certificate of merit for her years of service.

To fill the seat on the Board created by Caroline’s resignation, the Board voted unanimously to appoint Ron Benoit.  In the last election, Ron ran tenth in the field of candidates and was therefore the logical choice to fill Caroline’s seat. That seat will be up for election in May.

During the annual meeting of the DIPOA, on May 14, 2005, four seats on the Board will be filled by election from the membership.  Any member who wishes to run for one of the four positions must submit a statement, no longer than 200 words, to be received by 5:00 p.m., April 8, 2005 at the POA office. The mailing address is: P.O. Box 366, Dauphin Island, AL 36528.  However, in order to vote in the up-coming election, if you have not already done so, you must register with the POA office. Bring proof with you of ownership of property.

The Palms Restaurant at the Isle-Dauphine building is now offering Sunday Brunch. Also, for those of you who would like to connect with the internet, high-speed internet service is available at the Isle-Dauphine building.

Property owner, Baiba Guess, has formed a committee of volunteers for the purpose of picking up beach and roadside trash in the neighborhoods. Any one who wishes to participate should call Baiba at 861-5530. Baiba also mentioned that the DI School is looking for volunteer tutors on Tuesdays and Thursdays for about 45 minutes.  Currently, the school is selling candy for a field trip to New Orleans.  The Welcome Center in DI Foundation house needs volunteers on a regular basis.

The next public meeting of the DIPOA Board will be April 2nd, 10:00 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce Building.
